need to descale my tankless heater can you use a sump pump

I need to descale my hot water heater, I didn't want to spend 50 or 70 dollars or so for a submersible pump if I didn't have to. My dad had a sump pump over at his house and Im hoping to be able to use that, but Im just curious if it may be too powerful. Is there a max gpm I should try for, can I damage the unit if the pump is too powerful?

Why do you think you need to descale the unit? How do you propose to do it? I've got a gas tankless, and have never heard of such a thing. A tankless unit should not be installed in a location with hard water unless you have a softener.

Actually most things say it needs to be done once a year for maintenance depending on your water.

Also I'm having issues with my shower and everything else has been ruled out. We've determined that the flow of the hot water side is reduced enough to cause the pressure balance valve in the shower to basically shut off the water.

Our water here has a lot of calcium in it too.

Very common issue with tankless heaters, and yes it should be flushed every year. Any small pump like that would work.
I would look at your manual or go on line to see if your manufacture has any special directions.

I have a sump pump, its not really small, not super huge, but bigger then you average submersible pump. I just want to make sure I can damage the unit with too powerful a pump before I use it.
