Natural Gas Firepit

I installed a natural gas fire pit in my backyard last summer. The fire pit has an aluminum burner ring that is hooked to a valve on the side of the pit and then a gas line that runs into the house and is connected into the main. The problem i am having is that when it rains, the burner ring is getting water in it and the low pressure nat gas isnt enough to clear the water. i have been hooking up a compressor and blowing the water out with that but am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on a better solution. Thanks

Put a cover over it when not in use.

x2

Is this just an on/off valve or does it turn on with a remote control or electrical switch?
