name that gross drain thingy in my basement...


Ummm, what is this thing?
It looks like there's some sort of runoff pipe there facing upwards at the top,
it's got some gross looking stuff in it, but no smell. Some sort of drainage? It isn't septic related (as far as i know?) the house is from 1958.

If you run water in that tub, does the water from it flow through this area?

Looks like a basement floor drain that somebody cemented a piece of terra cotta chimney liner over for some reason. Maybe it was draining slow and the chimney liner was supposed to give it more time to drain when it backed up...
