My Garbage Disposal is leaking - need help to repair it

My garbage disposal is leaking. It's an in-sink erator brand and it is leaking in the middle of the unit. When i look at it, the water is coming out of the part that connects the bottom part (i'm assuming this is the motor) and the top part which connects to the sink. i ran both the faucet and my dishwasher to confirm the leaks is coming from this middle area.

i consider myself to be handy but don't have knowledge or skill on plumbing or garbage disposals, so i can use all the help i can get.

please let me know if you need any more information.

thanks

1) go to the store and buy a new disposer and some putty.
2) disconnect and remove the old disposer. Clean it.
3) look it over more carefully for where the water is leaking...
if you can isolate that further and KNOW it's limited to the outlet pipe
then sure, go ahead and try to close up that leak.
4) install (or return) the new disposer.

Sounds like a fatal flaw---Plan on replacing it---that's a good brand--seriously consider buying another in-sinkerator--
