My garbage disposal isn't working

Recently my garbage disposal became jammed. I was able to turn the plates from the top and it seemed to loosen up. But then I discovered that I can hear the motor spin but the plates are not. I used an allen wrench to spin it from the bottom of the unit, and it seems to turn freely. But the discs are not moving. Now water is very slow to drain. What do I do know?

Time for a new disposal, that one is broken beyond repair.

I think Ron has it. It sounds as if the grinding plate is sheared from the shaft that drives it.
