I want to move a toilet over about 8 inches in a second story bathroom so I can make the shower bigger. I'm just curious what I would be getting into, is it worth it?? How much of a pain is it to move the existing drain pipe or can I put an adaptor or extension onto the already exisisting one? The drain pipe now runs N/S, I'm moving the toilet East(if that helps) tearing the plywood up isn't the problem, the whole bathroom is getting torn up anyways. Thanks.
The main problem I see with this is if you have a floor joist in the area where the pipe would need to be. If could be done using two 45 degree elbows, but in such a short distance (most toilets are 12" from the wall) , it may be advisable to cut out the existing tee that goes into the main drain and installing a new one with the proper angle.
That could work, I don't know where the tee comes in at in relation to the toilet. Just wondering how much floor I would have to rip up to get to it. But yeah there is a joist there, I would have to go under and around it. The bathroom sits pretty much right above the sewage drain. Thanks for your input.
You should also have a 15" minimum clearance from the center line of the toilet to both sides (wall, vanity, shower...)
