mortar bed for bathtub on house 3 feet off ground

We are putting in a new tub, but our house is 3 feet off the ground not ground level. We want to know how to make a proper mortar bed as lightweight as possible. Any help is appreciated.

What kind of tub?

Typically the amount of mortar needed is less than one bag---that weight will not hurt any house that is safe to live in----

More details,please

it is a fiberglass tub, it has 4 legs, and the body is about 2 inches off the ground.

Any I've seen just use a row of blobs not a full bed so as the tubs set the morter speads out. It does not matter that your house is over a crawl space. As MIke sayed most often it's only 1, bag.
I would lay down a layer of tar paper on that floor before applying the morter.

Hello Joe, thanks for the info.

Oh'Mike, sorry was at a fundraiser for the day. Don't know what else to tell you about the tub other than it says Gelcoat bath.

Hey JoeCaption, would gypsum lite work just as well or go for regular concrete?

The Gypcrete works--or masons mortar--not concrete--the gravel will not allow the tub to squish out the excess---

When placing a tub into the mortar---press it down by the edges of the tub---do not step into the tub to compress the mud---the tub may flex to much and over press the mud bed--leaving a hollow spot after you step out of the tub---

if you look under the tub is there a piece of 3/4 inch wood fiber-glassed into tub and then four feet if so that is one of the better tubs if so just put mortar under feet for leveling purpose only
