moldy smell from kitchen sink/hole not fully open

After looking for the smell from my kitchen sink I looked down the hole in the lefthand side of sink (side without garbage disposal) and I can see that the white pipe is not a complete hole. Looks like the hole is only half cut out. Ive put clorox down the drain and the smell comes back the next day. I could see black spots that looked like mold on the white plastic that is not cut out of the drain.

Sorry, I have tried but no way to take picture. While looking down drain hole...I can see only half the white pipe is open. Looks like someone cut a half circle in pipe. Should there be a round hole?

Also, looking in drain hole I can see dirt or something at bottom of hole. Looks like pipe is not draining and food/stains are just sitting there at bottom of pipe running across. Maybe it should be on a slant to make sure it drains?

There should not be a hole in any drain pipe.
Without that picture were all going to be just guessing at what your even looking at.

moldy smell from kitchen sink/hole not fully open

Sorry, I guess this wasn't such a good idea trying to do this online. I just don't know how else to explain. When you say there should not be a hole you are not getting what I'm trying to say. There has to be a hole from the sink to allow whater to go out and down the drain. What I'm trying to explain is that the hole in the sink drain looks like a white pipe coming from the right side was cut out to allow water to drain but wasn't the hole is a half circle. So when looking down drain with flashlight I see part of the white plastic pipe is covering the hole.
Thanks for you time on this but maybe I should call a plumber.

This is what it should look like.

There is no drilled holes allowed in the drain.
If someone did some funky DIY drilling instead of do it right there's just no way here to know what they did without seeing it. Sorry.

I have seen a cutaway view of a sanitary tee that has an internal directional baffle, so that water is directed downward. You probably have one of those.

But I have no idea if your smell has anything to do with that. Does your sink have a properly installed trap?

if its an end outlet waste the tees used to have a baffle right above the inlet on the side. you could see it if you looked down through the strainer.

I didn't know the name, but that's what I meant, thanks.

I finally found a cutaway view of an end outlet tee, took way too long to find ...

Which side of the sink stinks? If disposer side, might try cleaning up the junk that can build up inside the disposer (with electricity off of course!).
Key question was is there a proper trap on the this drain line? If not, sewer gases can come up.
A pic of the plumbing under the sink would help.

Finally got what your talking about, a hole in the drain and a baffle are way differant things. I can see why it would be hard to discribe.
We have one and it stays pluged up all the time, how did someone think that was a good idea dumping ground up stuff from the garbage disposal into that narrow a drain?
I also see no way that's causing the smell.

.
A good way to clean out a disposal and make it smell nice is with citrus peels. Nothing like grinding up a lemon to freshen up the disposal.

those rubber splash pieces get pretty nasty underneath.

It took me over half an hour just to find that stupid cutaway drawing. I saw one cut in half on a DIY show, and figured it would be easy to find a drawing. But ...
