Moen pull shower control screw

I have a Moen shower fawcet that has a clear plastic pull where you turn clockwise or counter to adjust the temp. I had changed the cartridge a few years ago.

I had not been using the shower. The left to right just spins so I cannot really adjust hot and cold. I figured I just need to tighten the philips head screw that secures the plastic handle.

I turn the screw and it just turns. I cannot seem to tighten it or loosen it. Anyone ever encounter this? I am not sure if it is stripped. Thanks.

Sounds like it's stripped. Does the handle just pull right off?

No. It works when I pull it to turn on the water but it cannot adjust hot or cold. I will try to see if I can pull the screw out somehow. Really weird.

Did you remove the handle with an allen wrench, 7/16, I believe. Then there is a plastic insert that holds the handle on, has a philips screw in the center of it. That may need tightening, or is stripped/broken. Tight not to tight, it's plastic it will break, if it does you'll need a new one. May just need adjusting, have to investigate a little further. Post a couple pics if you can. Thanks.

Turn the water off first and relieve pressure.

Sometimes with a stripped thread, you can walk it out with some help. In this case, try pulling out on the handle while turning the screw. Don't put it back together that way, but it might at least allow you to get the handle off so that you can remove the clip and replace the cartridge without having to cut the handle off.

Also make sure you remove the allen head screw completely from the handle if you can. Handle should come right off .

Moen pull shower control screw

I do not usually use this shower but had the bath redone. I would get dust and dirt through the windows even with windows closed. I would rine the tub but did not use much water. The tub clogged due to like a mud. The guys here helped me on snaking out the mud! Bizarre.

I replaced the cartridge years ago aka BUT or Before U Tube. I could not get the thing off. I finally figured out there was a clip.

That is correct. The clip has to be removed before cartdrige will come out. At least now you know.

Going forward, if you're not going to use that bathroom, remember to run the water and flush the toilet once in awhile. Should be fine. Over time traps dry out leaking sewer gas into the home/living area and any leftover waste/dirt, etc., in the line can get dried up which could cause a partial blockage. Just my opinion.

Sounds like the old Moens.
If so, the center screw is all that holds the handle in place.
Does the handle spin 360*? It shouldn't
If you grip the handle, can you tighten the screw down?

The handle spins 180. But if it was working - it would not spin and I would be moving between hot to cold and vice versa.

I tried a cordless drill after trying manual phillips head first. I went slow. The screw spins in either direction. I tried to get a flat head screwdriver behind the screw. I pulled the nadle out and the water comes on but the screw is on there. This is really strange. I will try to post some pictures.

I think the plastic on the back o fthe handle somehow broke and the screw somehow got stripped. I am not sure how the screw got stripped. I guess I could try to hack saw the screw off.

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Just a hunch, but I think the screw is seized and you're actually spinning the cartridge stem.
If I'm correct, you'll need to somehow cut the handle off so you can access the stem or keeper pin to remove the cartridge.
