Match Shower Diverter Cartridge with new Fixtures

Hey all,

I am in the process of researching everything out in regard to replacing my 1950's shower fixtures. I have a 3 handle style now and will be replacing it with another 3 handle style.

I'm looking at something like this...

http://www.amazon.com/Premier-120142...507671&sr=1-14

However, i would also like to go ahead and replace the cartridges as well since they leak, especially the cold faucet. Basically, doing something like this...

However, I have read that the cartridges are matched up by the company in terms of compatibility. I guess I just need a little help with knowing which cartridge I should get to match the kit linked above from amazon.

If I need to provide any more pertinent info please let me know. Just beginning the researching process now so nothing has been taken our or unscrewed yet :)

I think you are a bit confused---or I am----You are looking at a complete replacement tub/shower mixer---but I think you want a set of replacement hardware for your antique set---

Are you trying to rebuild the existing 1950s mixer and then add new trims?

Rebuilding the old one can be done----finding handles to fit it might be a challenge---

All items much match, not just the cartridge and trim.

Valve body (in wall)

Cartridge or stem (in valve)

Trim kit (on stem or cartridge)

We have no idea what valve body you currently have, so suggesting a replacement cartridge to match some arbitrary trim kit you found on amazon really does absolutely no good.

Basically you're looking at some newer styles of trim that more than likely won't fit your valve. Is there some reason you wouldn't swap the entire thing out?

Thanks for the replies! So this project is getting to be a bit bigger than I had anticipated. So what you are saying is that I need to replace everything shown in the second picture of this link (the diagram picture)

The answer is yes, unless you can find a trim kit you like that goes to the valve in the wall. (providing you know the model number and brand of the valve)
