It is my understanding that MAPP burns much hotter so it really depends on the torch head. I would google the part number.

I don't know where you can get MAPP gas anymore. They quit making it in 08. You are getting a MAPP gas substitute like MAP/Pro.

Bernzomatic does not rate any of their propane torches for MAP fuel, but their current MAP fuel torches are dual fuel rated.

If you need the higher BTU transfer, get the torch that is made for it.

I believe you need to get a specific torch head for the MAP gas, which is a bit more expensive than a Benz torch head, or so a Home Depot employee explained to me so take it for what it is worth.

tnx,
In the interest of safety; No. I wouldn't. You can google it and get just about any answer your looking for on this topic, or you could go to the mapp/pro website and ask them directly. This is just my opinion on the topic.

IMO, you can use propane or a mapp gas cylinder with a torch rated for mapp, but you should not use a mapp gas cylinder with a torch rated for propane only (as in your case). It should say right on the torch what it's rated for, if it doesn't, than it's probably rated for propane use only. If you read the disclaimer on the mapps/pro cylinder, it states specifically, only to be used with an approved/rated mapps/pro torch. Mapps/pro gas does burn hotter than propane.

Others will tell you that they have used a regular propane torch for both propane and mapps/pro with no problems. Yes, it will work, but why risk it. IMO, get the appropriate torch rated for the mapps/pro cylinder. They can be bought seperately or entire kit at any big box store.
