Making a prefab shower fit?

Hi everybody, I kind of feel I don't really belong here because I know nothing but hopefully someone will take pity on me.
I have been staring at this drain sticking out of my downstairs bathroom (concrete floor, drain sticks up about 12 inches) for years. I don't know what is supposed to fit the placement. It is 15 inches from one finished wall and 18 inches from the other wall. The pipes are on the wall that is 15 inches from the drain. What I would really like to do is install one of those prefab showers (Home Depot has one on sale for $199 this week) but since the drain wouldn't line up, do you think I could build out the walls a bit so it would fit? Any ideas, suggestions would be very much appreciated.

A shower drain needs a trap, does the pipe you are referring to have one, doesn't sound like it.

But as far as building out the walls to fit the prefab, don't see why not.

Here I am exposing my ignorance, but is a trap the curved part under a sink, if so, then no unless it's under the concrete? This is just a straight pipe sticking out of the floor. Btw, thanks for the quick response.

The trap would be in the concrete and yes its like that one under the sink.

See if you can put a rod or broom handle down the pipe, see if stops and where. Then put water in the pipe and try it again, is the end of the handle wet?

I did what you said and except for it draining a little slowly, it worked - the tip of the broom handle is wet, yipee. I put a magnet down there just in case there was anything there to stop it from draining quickly but I didn't get anything. I live in a house full of hooligans so you never know. Once when my central vac wasn't working properly, I thought there was something stuck in a corner of the duct, so I cut it open and out fell 13, yes 13, dinky cars.
Tomorrow I will be off the get my shower. Thank you so much for your help.

Your welcome and good luck with the project, maybe you could post a pic or two along the way.
