Main Vent pipe failed inspection....

Hello all,

New to forum, and want to say hello.
I have a issue that hopefully someone can shed some light on it. Basically i did a gut job on my house from the early 50's. I'm remodeling everything.
Also replaced the iron stack with pvc and it simply protruded where the existing one was.
I also placed an skylight in that area of the roof, because of my half bathroom in the second floor.
I understand why it failed but the city is not offering me any reasonable options other then removing the skylight or place the stack 10ft away from that window.

according to 2009 national plumbing code. section 12.4.4 states that if the vent termination is within 10ft horizontally of any opening... i can extend it 2 ft vertically from the opening.

I refered that to the local inspector and he is refusing it!
I told him i can extend the vent pipe 2 feet above the window which will place me within national code.

why and are they allowed to refuse me.

this is not a flat roof, its a cape.

the 4in stack protrudes about a foot away below the window on the right, and terminates near the top of hte window 3ft tall.

any info will be greatly appreciated!!!

JOHN

This is a tough one to win-----How big of a problem will it be to relocate the vent?

Getting an inspector to change his ruling usually takes a professional opinion.

In other words--you may need to hire a pro to help you win this one.

The money might be better spent moving the vent.
