I have to make a choice to upgrade my hot water supply that currently is supplied by my oil burner via a internal coil. I am looking for opinions from those who switched to LPG for a hot water tank vs an indirect hot water tank that gets it hot water from the coil on the oil burner. What can I expect as to initial cost for installation and yearly costs for LPG vs oil fired hotwater from the burner to an indirect water heater?
Right now you are getting two for the price of one, the boiler is doing double duty correct?
If you where to go to the LPG and the boiler that would be two fuels , one for heating the house and one for heating the water for sinks and showers etc...
So while you might cut the one cost down you would be adding in another cost.
I do not know how much fuel you use a month and what the cut would be for that fuel along with the added LPG cost if there would be a true fuel cost cut.
It was just a thought.
My guess that it would be just a few dollars cheaper per month but not enough to convince me to invest in the installation and cost of materials of an LPG hot water tank and storage tank. A storage tank may even increase my homeowners insurance.
