Low hot water temp. from gas water heater in hot weather.


My 40 gallon gas water heater is not heating water well in hot weather.It gets hotter in evening as temps. drop.sometimes in the morning it takes awhile to get hot water even at faucet closest to heater.I try to drain tank twice a year.themostat set to about 115-120 degrees.Thanks for yor help.Rob

How much insulation is on that tank? Is it in place that is air conditioned during hot season, heated during cold season? How long is run to nearest faucet, pipes in AC'd heated area? How long is "a while"? I don't think AC would have that much effect on heater, it would just come on more often, but...
Sure you don't have your thermometer upside down and are confusing hot weather with cold?
