Loss of water pressure in my house... - DIY Chatroom

last night I had a frozen pipe. It was in my crawl space - about 6" in... it was the pipe leading to the hose bib... Anyway, I shut off the water pump (I have a well) and hot water heater as well as the main water shutoff until I could crawl around under the house to see what was wrong. I shut off the pipe that had burst under the house at a valve further in under the house - this valve feeds that pipe only... it is a shutoff I guess I should have used earlier!

Upon turing everything back on so that we had water everywhere else, I found that our water pressure has now dropped significantly. On the second floor, we get barely a trickle... Did I need to "bleed" the water pump (under the house) itself? What else could be wrong?

PLEASE HELP!

What all is on the 2nd floor for the fixtures?

On the second floor there are 2 BR's - the MBR with a garden tub and shower and another with just a shower. both the garden tub and the shower in my BR have very low water pressure - It would take an hour to fill the tub... Since my last communication, I have also discovered that pressure is also very low in the first floor laundry room- the washing machine took 25 minutes to fill...

any ideas?

Is it possible that when you had the water off your main supply froze? Damn global warmin <sarcasim>. In other words is pressure low everywhere? if so, that would lead me to believe somthing is a miss in your main supply line. Maybe the shut-off you used is not fully open? is the main shut-off a 'ball valve' or a regular stem type valve? In other words is it one handle that you turn 45degres or is it a round handle you screw up and down? If its the latter maybe the washer fell off and is clogging up the valve.

I'm a city water guy and only know a little about pumps, pressure tanks and so forth. I suspect that the problem is somwhere on that end of the system.

I'm at a lose on this one, sounds like a valve is not fully open as mentioned.

Are you on a well or public water?

curiuos about this. What kind of pipe is supplying the house? Was any water drained from the waterheater while the water was off at the main? Water heater on ground floor? Are you sure you have no other leaks? Are you sure that valve only supplys the hose bib?
