Loose Sink Strainer

I am trying to install a new lock nut on my sink strainer. I used plumber's putty to seal the strainer, but that makes the whole strainer turn, so I am unable to screw the lock nut on. I have tried tying down the strainer, putting weights on the strainer, but no luck. What do I do?

Loose Sink Strainer

Hi,
they make a tool for that, that you can get at your local home depot or Lowe's. you can also use your imagination and try using needle nose pliers or a coulpe of screwdrivers that someone can hold on the top while someone down below is tightening the strainer nut. the best way is the proper sink strainer tool.
good luck...............tool-man
