locating water main inside a home

We want to install a water softener and filter for the entire home. How do we locate the water main for hookup? Our house is on a slab, main water shut off is at the street. Water heater is in the attic but the water main splits before going to the water heater. Please help.

Its located near the street in a box in the ground. That's also where our main shut off valve is.

Just a guess but if you fallow the supply line on the heater you will see it coming out of the top plate, that should give you a location where it comes up the wall from the slab.

Ok we followed the cold water and hot water lines from the attic down into the house where it ended up between the master bath shower and bathroom closet. Coming out of the slab are 3 copper pipes. The middle pipe goes straight up to the water heater. Breaking off from that pipe are 2 others that go back down into the slab. I'm thinking one of these is the main. Yes? But which one?
