Lingering smell in bathroom

There is always a fowl smell in my bathroom that lingers through out the day. Is there something wrong with the toilet? It was newly installed about a year ago.

How was the floor installed?

Did you add subfloor? Add Ditra?

Do you know if the toilet's W/C Flange is sitting on the top of the finished floor. This oversight is quite common and the result of countless fail bathrooms.

Remove the toilet and check that it is not leaking there.

Does the bathroom have a tub or shower?

Was the smell there before the newly installed toilet?

No there was no smell before new toilet was installed. A low flow toilet was installed. The house was bought already built but I did see the sub floor in the bathroom. Particle board I think which had some mold but was treated with bleach. We used the wax ring with the extended flange on it. The flange is not on the new floor. From what I read it could be a bacteria. I add bleach to the bowl and the odor goes away. But always comes BACK!

The first thing I would do is pull the toilet and look at the wax ring. If it is not sealed all the way around the outlet on the toilet, a fowl smell could easily come through there,

Any infrequently used fixtures in the bathroom. Sometimes there are seperate tub and shower with one being used and the other not. In that case the trap on the unused one could dry out. Easily fixed with a little water poured down the drain.
