Leaky showerhead after valve replacement

Hello,
I have a MOEN single handle shower valve. It was leaking (when OFF) steadily so I replaced the valve (which included new washers). The leak slowed, but still continues. What's my next step is solving this leak? Ideas?

Did you sand the inside of the sleeve before you installed the cartridge?

Often there is lime-rust and crud built up on the walls of the valve body--A few strokes with some fine sand paper --wipe out the crud --then install the cartridge--Hopefully the cartridge wasn't damaged by the rough surface.

Try that--Good luck--Mike--

Well, damn. Nope, didn't know to do that. I do have a high concentration of calcium from my well. Now if I take the valve out to sand the chamber, is my new valve still good? You mentioned possible damage. What would this damage look like?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you----The crud may have scratched up the rubber a bit. If it was hard to re-install(you had to really force it in) the rubber might be torn up a little.

Chances are you are fine--it may just be dripping because the rubber will not seal against the rough sides of the valve body. It doesn't take much crud to cause a drip.--MIKE---
