leaky shower

I've got an old leaky shower valve. It will turn off but I need to close the handle with lots of force to get it to not drip. I'm worried it will break one day at this rate. Took off the cover to see if I could replace the inner parts but couldn't remove the inside valve parts.

any ideas on how to remove the inside or even if I can? any idea what brand i'm looking at? am i looking at a total replacement to fix this problem?
