I just installed a new diverter spout. First, I tried the recommended Teflon tape at the connections, but water kept leaking when the shower function is on. So I got some plumber's putty, the kind intended for plastic and porous materials/pipes, but water still leaks and drips down against the wall when the shower is on. (No leaks are present when the spout is filling the tub; only when the diverter function gets turned on.)
How do I stop leaks once and for all? Or is it okay that some water is rolling down the wall beneath the spout? (I just don't know if it's escaping from the front and rolling back, or if the leak is coming from behind the spout and--my big fear--going into the wall.) I haven't caulked around the spout yet, of course.
