Leaking tub

My daughter's ceiling had a damp spot so a contractor opened up the ceiling and discovered that the leak is coming from the tub. He has proposed replacing the tub and ceramic tile in the bathroom.
My question is: can the tub be fixed with a glazing job possibly? This is a full tub and wall unit and it will be diffucult getting it out of her small second floor bathroom.any thoughts on a solution besides a total replacement would be appreciated!

How did he determine its the tub itself and not the plumbing connected to it? 9 times out of 10 its the piping. Such as the waste & overflow, rotten p trap, or a tile leak at the top edge of the tub.

The leak could be as simple as bad caulk or bad seal at the valve body or tub spout. For a leak you really need an experienced service plumber not a nail banger

I agree. "Hey, you have a leak. Let's remodel your bathroom." Doesn't sound like the solution, just a nice paycheck for the contractor.

If he opened the ceiling, can you post a picture? Can you see where the water is coming from?

I agree with the others. Unless you tube is cracked, chances are a little plumbing or caulking will fix your problem.

I would talk to your contractor and find out exactly where the leak is coming from, chances are he doesn't know nor does he care. He's happy replacing everything.
Anything fun is either illegal, immoral, or fattening.
