Leaking toilet cistern-flush pipe connection

Hi All,

Because of a continuously running toilet, today I have replaced the Cistern Outlet Valve. The valve itself works perfect but for some reason I am unable to completely seal off the connection between the Cistern and the Flush pipe. The new outlet valve came with a new wedge washer (which I have placed inside the cistern), a new back nut, a new flush pipe ring and a new cap nut. I have installed everything according to instructions but there is still a leak between the back nut and the bottom of the cistern. I already went back to the DIY store to buy a new wedge washer but the problem still exists. Even installing 2 wedge washers, 1 on the inside and one on the outside of the cistern, doesn't help. I am now inclined to buy a sealant and seal it off that way.

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong? Your help is much appreciated as this toilet is driving me insane.....

Many thanks and looking forward to your solutions!

Cheers a DIY-er from Perth, Australia

Is there a flaw in the porcelain?

That is an odd one----if you do use sealant--try 'Form-a-Gasket' or something similar---an auto parts store will have that---
