Leaking toilet

Yesterday I found that my toilet had leaked around the base - maybe a cupful of water was on the floor, all around. Never happened before, and the toilet has been in place @ five or six years. I closed the water line and checked it today and it has not leaked again. There is water standing in the bowl. No leak when I flushed it today. It seems to be firmly in place, and the nuts are not loose.

Bad gasket underneath? Is this a DIY project? Other possible causes? Thanks.

Definately sounds like the gasket or wax seal. Turn the water off at shut off. disconnect from toilet. Then remove the nuts and pull the toilet (taking the water out first). Inspect to be sure there isn't any other damage to the floor or the water closet. Clean out the wax, replace the seal and reset toilet, you'll want new bolts and nuts.

Leaking toilet

If you think that its not coming from flushing check the top end and the water line before pulling the base. I use toilet paper after drying everything well, if anything drips you'll see it. Lay it out in strips behind the bowl and around the supply.
