Question

Leaking shower tap

Hi,

I have an old house. The water is leaking from the cold water tap. When i Change the washer, it will not leak for 2-3 days and then it will start leaking again. I saw that the seat has a cut on its edge. I bought a seat removing wrench but the problem is that the seat is in a sleeve which rotates with the seat in the pipe. I asked a professional but he said this is an old system and he said that whole system needs to be replaced.

Can some one please help?

Thanks to all.

Are you sure it's "old"? Kohler still makes valves with that type of removable seats:

You can blow up the image using the magnifying glass icon on the left hand side. (check out parts #30134 and 30135)

Hi Ishmael,

THe diagram preety much resembles the tap I have but it is not Kohler. Can you please shed some light on how to remove that sleeve and change the seat.

THanks for your help.

I'd really need to see it. Can you post pictures?

If you post even just a picture of the valve itself, someone may recognize it and be able to give instructions from there...

Sounds like a lot of aggravation and trouble with something that old.

Shut the water off and install a new faucet for about 50 bucks.

With all the diy stuff out today you probably won't even have to solder anything.

Just removed it. It is similar to 1Z-6H (only one available at home depot). Is it OK to put it in cold side? Now how to replace the new one because the old one just came off with the stem. Please advise.

Thanks in advance.
