Leaking Connection Between PVC drain and Cast Iron Trap

Hi there,

We moved into a 1953 ranch this summer. The kitchen was remodeled sometime in the 80s or 90s, and much of the undersink plumbing was replaced with PVC. The connection between the PVC and the cast iron trap is currently leaky. Since this is our first house, we've been constantly learning--what's the best way to fix this problem? It looks like this:

Leaking Connection Between PVC drain and Cast Iron Trap

unscrew it, there should be a beveled plastic washer between the plastic and cast iron. it is probably cracked or damaged and needs replaced.
