Leaking connection between disposal pipe and drain pipe in kitchen

The pipe that drains the disposal into the main sink drain pipe is too short. If I tighten the connection between the two there is a gap. I did not install the disposal and have zero experience with plumbing. What would the easiest most effective repair for this situation?
