Leaking compression fitting on main water line

I have a lawn sprinkler system and have discovered a leak in a compression fitting in the main water line at the tie in to the sprinkler line. I have taken the nut loose and cleaned the threads, retightned the nut but still have the leak (drips about each second). There is no play in the pipes to remove the fitting. What's the next best step?

Most likly someone over tightened it.
Once you do it's trash.
Might be a good idea to let us know what type pipe it is for better suggestions.

Leaking compression fitting on main water line

That's not what I wanted to hear. I have attached three pics of thee pipes, connection, etc. The compression fitting is on the main connected to a "t" which goes into the main shutoff valve for the sprinkler. As you can see there is not much room to work. Looks like more digging, cutting and splicing.
Let me know if any more information would help.
Thanks.

Not sure why they used a compression fitting.
Just cut it out and use a reguler elbow, a few short pieces of new PVC and two repair couplings. Repair couplings do not have a hub in the middle of them so they can be slid over the pipe.

It's not really an elbow. It's a "t" with the line continuing to the house. The 90 degree goes to the main sprinkler shutoff valve.
