leak below upstairs bath tub
Water leaked through my downstairs smoke alarm after draining a full bath tub directly above this alarm. I opened the drywall and can see the pipes, but they do not leak now. There must be a drainage problem, but I'm am at a loss! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Most common tub leak areas--
Overflow gasket not set properly. Bad tile/tub connection--failing tile job Water on floor due to bad door--shower curtain--- Leaking shower arm inside wall bad gasket on mixer cover plate. |
leak under tub floor
It was the overflow gasket... thanks again!

I learned that one the hard way----

I had all of those in one year plus "bad main drain seal" and "corroded brass drain pipe" except "Bad tile/tub connection--failing tile job", and that's only because we don't have tile. |
fill the tub till middle of overflow easier w/2 people slash water w/hand or cup all around the overflow #2-check for leaks from below #3-pull stopper check for leaks from below. Basic test that's if you had only taken a bath.if no leak shows up then it's tub valve ,tub spout, caulking.tub surround, water splashing out of tub.

Supply pipes don't always leak when water is shut off..try running the tub/shower separately while observing..a pin hole leak may take several minutes to show up..make sure you dry off the area, piping as much as possible first and use a good flashlight to spot the leak...same procedure while draining the tub

so, how did things work out?
