lazy toilet handle

This is my new 30 yr old house.

When the toilet is flushed you have to hold the handle down for 30 seconds or so in order for it to flush completely.

What is the solution for a lazy handle?

I know how to replace the insides of a tank but never had handle trouble before. Always the optimist I'm hoping a simple WD40 spray will help. Any suggestions.

thank you

Replace the rubber flapper--it's not popping up on it's own---(could also be caused by a chain that's to long--operate the handle and watch the flapper---)

Hi Handy Lady!

wd40 or duct tape is always the answer isnt it??

K I'm giving it a stab, but if I'm wrong I reserve the right not to be scolded. Someone who really knows there stuff is around the corner anyway.

Either the chain that pulls the flapper up has too much slack or the flapper it self is damaged.

Right?? Didi I get it right??

thanks guys!

Jay

Ok, I did not know the holes under the rim could get clogged. I can see they all have black spots around them from the hard water.

I'll check chain, replace flapper and buy pipe cleaners.

It'll be nice to have one good functioning toilet. The second one has a leak but I only do one problem at a time.
