large hole in main sewer

We have a cast iron sewer line that is buried in our basement floor, that has a large hole in it. In the top, about 3 inches long and an inch wide. The pipe is half buried in the floor. How do we go about fixing it? Sorry if this does not make sense... any help would be appreciated

large hole in main sewer

cut a 4"x2" rectangle from a plastic milk carton, put a small hole in the center and put string through it. shove it in the hole, then use a popsicle stick to 'tourniquet' it snug to the inside. then mix up some waterproof epoxy repair (marine epoxy/gas tank repair) and fill it in. when hardened, cut off the string and add a small bit to cover it too.
