Kohler vs. AS cast iron bathtubs?

Hi all,

I'm redoing the bathroom in my house and my wife seems to want to get a cast iron bathtub (which im totally fine with, I think it makes it look kinda rustic with the clawfoot). I'm wondering which brand you would go with? The two I'm picking between are Kohler and American Standard. I've heard more about AS but there are a bunch of cast iron tub websites that have pages dedicated to talking about Kohler Cast Iron Bathtubs (like that one).

Has anyone had an experience with either's warranty or customer service? I don't really know which one to get since they both seem to look almost the same.

Generalization: Both have been around for a long time and noted for quality products, but some AS products seem to have been cheapened in recent years, while Kohler seems on an upswing. Can't say for cast products, but for the above reason, I would vote for Kohler.

I just put in a Kohler bathtub in our house, I think it was $300 (from home depot). So far, we love it, very sturdy and looks great.

I think it comes down to appearance and personal preference. Both are cast iron, both very sturdy and scratch resistant. The claw foot tubs look fairly simple to install other than the weight.

Hope your bathroom isn't very far from the front door.

It took 6 of us to carry one of those from one end of the house to the other, up the stairs and halfway back across. /day

Kohler has a catalog as thick as a phone book for there bath products.

I picked up one when I visited there design center. A local plumbing supply

should have one for you to borrow.

( if your ever up around Kohler ,Wi. North of Milwaukee you should visit there design center )

Those cast iron apron sinks are back breakers also.
