Kitchen water pressure suddenly weak

Happy New Year everyone!

Until today.

Fixed a pinhole leak in a copper pipe. Oops. Wrong pipe. Fixed the pinhole leak in the leaky pipe. Turned water back on. Good pressure to everywhere except the kitchen sink on the main floor. Pipe replacement was in the basement. (Seem to be getting regular pinhole leaks in the laundry room.) It's a single out faucet. When I first turn it on, it sounds like good water pressure then quickly fades. It also no longer cuts off but trickles out for a few seconds as the pressure dies away. I've used regular 1/2" copper pipe with sharkbites for connectors. I've done this before and never had a problem so I'm a little stumped. Any ideas what I should be looking for? Replace the faucet and hope it's a coincidence? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First thing I would do is screw off the aerator off the end of the spout and see if it is clogged. Hopefully it is the problem.

Somethings very wrong with your water if the supply lines are getting pin holes in the piping.
Hard copper pipes should last several life times.
I'd get it tested.

Is it a single handle with a pull out faucet head?

If so--there is a screen in the line between the hose and the head---also there is a tiny back flow preventer between the valve body and the hose--Either one causes those symptoms when clogged.

Thanks for the tips so far. I've checked the aerator and it seems OK. It's a pullout faucet head so I'll try taking that apart and see what happens, maybe even pull a connector off the faucet plumbing and see if I have pressure there. It's just too coincidental. It's a sudden change in pressure, not gradual over time.

ps we have hard water here, water softener is in place, pipes are now about 30 yrs old, this is 3rd pinhole in last 2 years. Seriously thinking about replacing future pinhole leaks with pex.

I'd bet 100 that the check valve (backflow preventer, mentioned above) is the trouble.

Is it easier just to replace the whole faucet? I can bump it up on my round tuit list.

Changing the check valve shouldn't be too difficult.

If the faucet is relatively new, call the company...they may even send you one for free. Not sure if they're available seperately via retail....maybe.

Unhook the hose from the valve body and turn on the faucet-Put a bucket under the tube)

That will often blast out the offending part----and let you know if the hose is the problem---

delgary If you have a question it would be best to go back and post your Thread.
With two people getting suggestions on one thread no one knows hows talking to who.
