kitchen sink sprayer hose

I am trying to replace the sprayer hose and have tried multiple hoses thinking the first one was defective. When I turn on the water it leaks below the nut on the hose (in between the nut and hose. I have used plumbers tape and varied how tight I tightened the nut under the faucet. Can't get any hose to work. Any ideas???

It leaks where it attaches to the faucet underneath? You really don't need to tighten a whole lot. I dab a little pipe sealant on the threads, the stuff in the yellow can.
Never any leaks. Does it start going on finger tight? Not cross threading.
