kitchen faucet issues

My daughter and I were very proud of ourselves when we replaced the kitchen faucet. Unfortunately the next day, there was water under the sink due to a small leak. We don't know where the leak is.

Also do you have to put putty around the main faucet housing to keep water from leaking down from the top? We didn't do that. If so, what kind of putty should I use? What would you do to fix the problem? Thanks

It's most likely a connection is not completely sealed and will be an easy fix.
Get a flashlight and get inside the cabinet- look at every connection you made. What kind of faucet is it? Make and model would help.
