Kitchen branch line sizing... old house

I'm doing a kitchen gut remodel in a house built in 1923. Drain from sink, venting and pipe under basement floor were 1 1/2". This is in Saint Louis (city). Can I go back with 1 1/2" PVC to avoid digging up the basement floor even though 2" is code?

You can use any size you like-- but as you said, 2" is code
If it were me, I'd put 1.5" back and see what the inspector says.
The last thing you want is to run 2" down and connect to 1.5"- thats not good
