Kenmore Elite Plumbing question.

Hi there, I just bought a used fridge with "no known issues" :p I hooked up the water supply line and water leaks from the first unit that the water runs into. Can I bypass this piece safely, and wondered if anyone knows what it does?

The water supply looks as if it runs into this unit, then out of it, and into a Pur water filter, then into the door. Is it some sort of impeller to increase water pressure? does it chill the water on it's way to the dispenser? I am inept when it comes refrigerator plumbing. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations?

I suppose I could remove the unit, silicone it, and hope that it doesnt leak down the road... but if I can bypass it without losing functionality it would make me feel more comfortable.

Thanks,

Spencer

Please check to make sure that the water supply line that you hooked up to the solenoid valve has the proper parts for the type of supply tubing you are using and is connected tight enough.

Try this link and see if it helps you understand the purpose of a water valve solenoid. If you have more questions let me know.
