I have a 2 pipe just pump that is acting up. I replace the venturi, foot valve and pipe down in the well and installed a new 1hp motor in the basement. We primed it up and it ran good until we turned on the outside faucet to water the garden and it lost its prime. I have spent several days trying to reprime the pump.
From the pump to the expansion tank I have a ball valve installed, and from the expansion tank to the whole house purifier I have a ball valve. Then it runs thru the UV light and into the the water heater and house.
When I start the pump, it runse about 40 psi with the valve between the tank and the pump closed. When I open it, it loses its prime completely.
Any ideas on what could be wrong?
You say the pump is losing it's prime, but at the same time it sounds to me like you're trying to describe something else.
A pump losing it's prime means that there's no water left in the motor, which happens when the water leaks out of the drop pipe back into the well. You've replaced all of that, so either you put something faulty in, a joint isn't holding, or you broke something when you put the pipe back down the well.
Turn off the ball valve AFTER the pressure tank. That part of the system there should run all by itself without having to worry about the rest of the line between the pressure tank and the house.
Do you have a low water cutoff style pressure switch?
