iron fighter pellets

I just started using this for my water softener. I see a lot of black/brown sludgy stuff on the bottom of my utility sink now. This comes from the small discharge pipe connected to the sink from the water softener. When I used regular solar salt I didn't see anything this. Is this a good thing meaning it is pushing out all of the junk?
