Installing a Water Softener

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a used Rainsoft EC4 water softener. The unique thing about it is that it has a second resin tank. If I read the user manual it doesn't mention anything about a second tank. All it shows is a single resin tank with the controller head on it and standard salt bin.

Would anyone know how to plumb in a second resin tank? In serial or parallel? Other?

I think it is a back up to ensure a high capacity of soft water at all times.

Thanks,
David

Second Salt tank?
Why would you wish to have a second salt tank?
Plan on using more than 300lbs per month?

You must have missed what I said, it is a second resin tank, not a second salt bin. The system I have is as follows:

1) salt bin for holding salt
2) First resin tank with controller
3) Second resin tank, no controller

I would like to know to best way to connect the system.

Thanks,
David

The units that use twin media tanks that I am familiar with have a control head that is designed to connect to both tanks and automatically switch between them. Fleck makes several twin tank control heads--9000, 9100 being the most common used in residential settings. The TwinFlo is also a twin tank control head.

Here is a link to literature on the Fleck control heads--perhaps the unit you have is a variant of a Fleck control.

My bad, shows that I should have coffee before coming to the forums and posting answers.

If you have a photo it would be cool, but as Bob has given a link there should be a page that shows what you most likely have and how it goes together.

Has he said how the two tanks are connected? Would it be an upflow filter, maybe carbon or calcite?

Think that it is the Rainsoft version of the Fleck 9100... and if that is the case they go together like the 9000 ..
There is a yoke that goes from main valve to the second tank adapter.
Easy Peasy...
