Hi guys,

I am in the plans to install a sink in my garage. I want to make it a sort of "mini kitchen," so I'll be using kitchen cabinets in the garage. I have some questions.

1st) Where I have the proposed project is where it has to go, there is no other room. There is a door between the project and the closest drain which is at the washer/dryer. Do I HAVE to have connect to a drain? I can just run a drain line into the wall and have it drain outside. I don't see another solution to the drain, since that door is in the way.

2nd) I have to connect to the water lines. Can I make the copper pipes go up and down, around the door jamb?

Tips, comments, critiques welcome!
I live in Southern, CA, so there is no worries about pipes freezing.

You have to connect to a drain, and you can route water lines how ever you like.

Could it be connected to a drywell? IF the sink was used to wash things like fruits and veggies...and not full blown kitchen use were everything gets stuffed down the disposal. I'd guess Emil should talk to his local code enforcement people...but I'll bet your right.

Thanks for the help. So with the laundry being too far away, how would I go about connecting to a drain? Am I totally out of luck?

You could use a sewage ejector pump set into a vented pit, and pump the effluent your closest drain connection

You could locate the sewer tie in a wye fitting, and run the line to it, vent it up and out and then get the water lines to there.

Great, thanks for the info. If I can't find a way to tie into the drain line, there is no point in installing a sink. Thanks again.

If your home is over a crawlspace or basement, you should be able to tie into a drain. If you're on a slab, you may have to run it outside and then underground to a drain line.
