Installing a Shower

I will be redoing my bathroom and installing an acrylic shower with base, walls and roof. The manufactures instructions tell me to attached the unit directly to the studs. However, I have also heard that you should put cement backerboard behind the unit and attach it to that.

I am confused which is the proper way to install the shower. If it helps, the shower is a Maxx Freestyle 42" Neo-round.

Thanks

Attach to studs. Always follow manufactures instructions.

pad under the shower base

the manufactory info said to install a pad under the base when installing on concreat. Are they talking about a vinyl pad? this is to keep it from squeeking according to the info.
