Installing new tub, drain location change.

Installing new drop-in tub. New tub drain will be a couple feet from old drain. Can I run a vertical pipe over to where old conncetion was near the trap? Is this OK or will it cause problems?

Do you mean horizontal? Where is this tub located in the house? Why can't you move the trap to its new location?

Yes horizontal. I thought it would be easier than moving the trap.

Tub is on second floor. I have not removed old tub yet. I think I would need to run horizontal pipe through floor joists.

Trap must be moved to the tub drain location---

A trap down line in a horizontal pipe is called a 'running trap'--illegal--and a real trouble maker--
If you did that you would have constant problems with sewer gas and clogged up drains--

Move the trap,too.
