Installing flat bottom vessel sink. Please help!

I have one question:

I have a flat bottom vessel sink that I need to install in my bathroom. The directions appear to tell me that I need to cut a 4" * 4" square hole in the top of the counter. I just want someone to verify if that sounds correct (comes with a template). I want to make sure I'm reading the directions correctly!

Installing flat bottom vessel sink. Please help!

Since I cannot see the rest of the installation instructions, or the sink, I guess all you can do to test this is use a piece of scrap wood and cut the opening to see what it's function is. I would definatly do this before cutting the countertop.
