Installing exterior faucet to washer line?

I need to put a garden hose spigget on the outside of my house. My only option short of running 12 feet of copper line from the cold line on other side of my house is to tap into the cold line that feeds the washer.

This line is in the basement, comes up to the kitchen and is on the side (driveway) that I want the faucet on. Is this allowabe by code in upstate NY or do I have to run that 12 feet of copper line and tap into the main cold water line?

I'd be tapping into these lines from the basement.

Thanks.

It should be OK.
You may want to install a frost free valve so that it will not freeze in the colder months.

Frost free

Yep... Install the Frost Free valve..... or make the Spigot at the end of the line with a on/off valve inside the house so it can be drained.....

the N.Y.S. Plumbing Code does not address this, sooo it's ok to do it. Do it like Md and Redline suggest
