Small world indeed. I went to ET School at Treasure Island. You?

You were what we submariners called a "target sailor." In my 8 years in the Navy, the only surface ships I was ever aboard were the various sub tenders we tied up next to. Aah, what memories: sitting in the Acey-Deucy Club in Rota, Spain, drinking $1 a pitcher sangria at 0900 and playing Radar Love over and over on the jukebox.

Believe it or not, after being out of the military for a dozen years, I joined the Air Force and ended up retiring with 24 years total.

Not surprising. Most of us around "our age" served in the military, voluntary or otherwise. There was this Vietnam meat grinder thing that had to be kept fed. The Navy seemed a much better option to me.

I was in from 82 to 92 ET school was Great Mistakes. C school was HF transmitters same area. In the end I never used a thing they taught me on HF transmitters. Since I graduated first in my class I went to Sugar Grove WV, for sea I was assigned to Navaidssupportgroupdetachment
we made them nice little maps you boomers seemed to enjoy...

Anyways with that gig I ended up living in Kenya, Somalia, Islands off Australia. And on the border of Panama and Columbia for a while. Had breaks from sea duty PI and Singapore. It was a very interesting experience. I'm an actually shell back something that our new service doesn't allow anymore..

From there I was assigned to Naval Air Station in Tn. Due to issues in the family I had to opt to end service at the 10 year mark..

Overall it was a great experience that taught me how lucky we really are that men and women risk there all for this country..

What? No more shellbacks? What's the Navy come to? Actually, I never had the "pleasure" of experiencing that ceremony.
