installing the drain for a plastic bath tub

I am hooking up the drain for a new plastic bath tub. Do I have to put any silicon on the inside surface before screw in the drain piece? If yes, what kind of silicon? (I am using PVC piping).

There should have been a flat rubber washer that came with the drain that goes on the inside of the tub under the drain.

I've never seen a flat rubber washer go on the inside of a tub. . . . .

I always use plumber's putty inside of the tub, and the rubber washer goes underneath.
