When people install dryer vents through the roof or gas flues or even vent pipes, do you guys just rely on the flashing or do you guys put down some sort of weathershield layer?

Yes.. and make sure the pipes are installed properly in the direction of flow as to not collect lint. Stay away from that flex stuff.

So the flashing itself that comes with the vent is not enough?

We use steel.

I don't like to use the thin aluminum round ducting because it seems to get crushed too often. I have had to place a piece of wood, cut accordingly, for some homeowners whose dryers "mysteriously" move back towards the wall often. Generally I try to use the heavy duty aluminum or galvanized material. Maybe a little harder to install, but last longer. David
