Install dishwasher and remove cupboard

I'm thinking of buying a dishwasher and would need to remove a kitchen cupboard to fit it in. The space it would have to go is quite a long way from the washing machine and sink, so I'm not sure how the plumbing would work. There is also a switch on the wall marked 'dishwasher' but I dont know what it's connected to (the flat is a new-build). I wouldn't even attempt doing this myself, but I'm just a bit confused about who I need to approach for this job- builder/plumber/electrician?

Thanks

You can use all three but dishwasher installation is fairly simple. A reputable, good quality handyman should be able to do the work for you.

A handyman I asked said that only qualified electricians can do this job, is that true? There is a switch on the wall marked 'dishwasher' so I wonder if the wiring has already been set up?

That may or may not be true...depends on where you live and what the codes say.

I have never seen a switch on a wall for a dishwasher, only for sink garbage disposals.

You won't know if the wiring exists until the cupboard comes out (you can also check your breaker panel to see if there is a breaker labelled as such)

Other option is to find another handyman. I've done lots of these- not that difficult if he/she knows what they are doing. It may also be possible that the wiring is located elsewhere and needs to be relocated.

If you can install the dishwasher closer to or next to the sink, that would be a huge benefit for plumbing work. Next to the sink you can connect to the sink hot water and drain lines right there. The further away from the sink you go with the dishwasher, the more problems you might have in trying to hook up water and drain depending of your existing piping configuration.
